Network engineers were alerted to an edge switch in the Equinix SY4 data centre that had lost its upstream connectivity. This switch provides connectivity to dedicated server services in a single rack.

Upon investigation, we identified that a downstream service caused a MAC loop, which resulted in the switch entering a protective state. This would have resulted in services connecting to the switch experiencing a service interruption of up to 10 minutes.

Connectivity has since been restored and services should be working as expected.
